I usually use Sprite® when making this recipe.  I keep a case of Sprite® in the garage just for this marinade.  I’m sure other lemon lime sodas would work just fine, but Sprite® is my favorite.

Since I am feeding teenage boys, I double the recipe that I am giving below.  I usually grill at least 10 chicken breasts so I double the marinade and use a gallon-sized Ziploc bag .

I add each ingredient for the marinade into the Ziploc bag.  I place the soy sauce, minced garlic, brown sugar, and Sprite into the bag.  I seal the bag and swish them together until they are well combined.  I add the chicken to the bag and reseal it carefully.  Of course, chicken breasts can marinate in a shallow baking dish or similar item.  The Ziploc bag is simply my preference.

Once the chicken breasts are marinating, it is a good idea to flip the bag every so often to allow the marinade to cover the chicken breasts more evenly.

The next step is to grill.  Simply cook the chicken breasts on the grill until they are thoroughly cooked and have reached an internal cooking temperature of 165° Fahrenheit (75° Celsius).  My grill has hot spots.  Since some spots are considerably hotter than other spots, my chicken breasts get moved around a good bit to ensure even cooking.

That’s it!  Favorite lemon lime soda marinade is such an easy and delicious meal that we eat it almost weekly through the summer.

    • I'm sorry. The diet Sprite wouldn't get anywhere near the caramelization of regular Sprite. I am a diet soda drinker as well, but I strictly use regular sodas for marinating. I've never tried low-sodium soy sauce.
