Sweet and Messy Barbecue Sausage #Recipe

I am grilling a lot this summer.  As temperatures rise, few things say summer more than dinner from the grill.  This sweet & messy barbecue sausage is a family hit.

We eat lots of grilled chicken with various marinades.  We love grilled chicken, but this grilled sausage gives us a very needed reprieve from the chicken.

This is so easy.  I just took Sweet Baby Ray’s barbecue sauce which is our favorite and added brown sugar before coating my smoked turkey sausage on the grill with a basting brush.  This really couldn’t be any easier if I tried.

My recipe is designed to feed teenage boys… teenage boys who love this sausage.  As such, it is probably overkill for most families.  I cooked 3 packages of smoke turkey sausage (13 oz each).  In addition to giving the exact measurements I used, I would like to point out that I used a 3:2 ratio of BBQ sauce to brown sugar.  I used 3/4 cup BBQ sauce and 1/2 (2/4) cup of brown sugar.  You could easily use 3 tablespoons of BBQ sauce to 2 tablespoons of brown sugar (or 6 tablespoons to 4 tablespoons) to scale back the recipe.  I had a little sauce left over but I might have used that too if I hadn’t been talking to my husband.

I prefer my sausage cut into quarters.  I first cut each sausage in the middle then split each half long wise. I like the way it cooks up and gets more coverage from the sauce in this way.  The sausages flip up and curl which gives me some bizarre satisfaction.

It just doesn’t get any easier or more delicious than this.
