Southern Gospel is a faith-based, redemptive film. However, it should be noted that this film is rated PG-13 for mature thematic content, drug use, violent content, suicide, and language. None of the content making the movie PG-13 is gratuitous or seemingly placed in there casually just to give the movie a more mature rating. All of the mature content is relevant to the storyline and beautifully illustrates the redemptive nature of God.
Bring tissues!!! I loved this movie! The characters are so well developed that I was cheering them on and feeling their heartbreak. This movie is real, raw, and honest. Southern Gospel quotes so much scripture and has mini sermons throughout. I loved everything about this movie. I have no complaints. None!
Synopsis: Samuel Allen, a 1960’s rockstar, finds himself in jail after struggling with years of anger and blame toward organized religion that has led him down a road of rebellion. In a moment of divine intervention, the judge dismisses drug charges against him under the pretense that Samuel speaks to local schools and churches about the dangers of drugs. Given a second chance, he follows in his father’s footsteps to become a preacher, overcoming the influence of a powerful church leader with a personal vendetta against his family.
